SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf team posted the 10th best score in Saturday's final round at the NCAA Western Regional at the Omni Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz. After failing to break par in the first two rounds, the Aztecs shot 5-under-par in the final 18 holes to end the 54-hole tournament at 2-under-par.

That Aztecs finished in a tie for 17th place in the 27-team field and ended their quest for a second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships. The top 10 teams from the region move on to compete at the NCAA Championships to be held at the Crosswater Club at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. The national championship will be conducted May 31-June 3.

San Diego State got to 7-under-par and to within one shot of 12th place at one point on the back nine, but was unable to get any closer to the top 10. Arizona and Florida each ended the 54-hole tournament at 37-under-par, 13 shots clear of the rest of the field, while Florida's Billy Horschel and Nevada's Casey Watabu each produced tournament-best scores of 13-under-par.

Senior Andrew Scott, who opened the tournament with rounds of 4-over-par and even-par, recorded an impressive 4-under-par 68. It was the best round by an Aztec player in the tournament. Scott played a bogey-free round and carded birdies on three of the four par 5's on the course and finished with a three-round total of even-par, 216.

Sophomore David Palm posted his second consecutive sub-par round, with a 2-under-par 70. He had five birdies to go along with three bogeys and finished the 54-hole tournament at 2-under-par and finished the tournament in a tie for 64th place out of 141 golfers.

Sophomore Aaron Goldberg broke par for the second time in the tournament on Saturday. Goldberg, who got to 3-under-par after 13 holes of Saturday's round, fired a 1-under-par 71. He ended the championship at 2-under-par and tied Palm for the best score on the team.

Sophomore Cory Segall produced a score good enough for the Aztecs to count for the second consecutive day. Segall birdied the 18th hole to finish the day with a 2-over-par 74.

Senior Josh Warthen struggled on the final day of the tournament. After producing rounds of 1-under-par and 3-over-par, he settled for a 4-over-par 76 on Saturday.
