INDIANAPOLIS - For the third time in six years, the San Diego State softball team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship. The Aztecs (32-13), who won the 2006 Mountain West Conference regular season title for the third time in five years and advanced to the MWC Championship for a league-best fifth time, will play Long Beach State (30-20) on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles at 2:30 p.m. Friday. UCLA (43-7), winners of 10 NCAA Championships, earned the No. 1 overall seed and will face Missouri State (40-15) in the other region's pairing.

Each game of the Los Angeles regional will be televised live by ESPNU.

With program-bests in overall winning percentage (.711) and conference winning percentage (.833), SDSU won 13 games in a row earlier this season to tie a school record (2003). The Aztecs also have set school records in runs (230), home runs (26), RBI (210) and walks (158).

This year's national tournament features 64 teams, with four teams participating at 16 regional sites in a double-elimination tournament. The regional winners will advance to super regional competition for a best-of-three series May 26-27 (Memorial Day Weekend) at eight campus sites. The remaining eight teams will advance to the Women's College World Series (WCWS), an eight-team, double-elimination tournament. The championship final will be a best-of-three-series. The WCWS will be conducted June 1-7 at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
