SDSU Softball Falls to Brigham Young in MWC Tournament

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The San Diego State softball team fell to Brigham Young, 8-4, in the Mountain West Conference tournament on Friday night at Eller Media Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. The first-seeded Aztecs (31-12) and second-seeded Cougars (42-19) will play again at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, where the winner will face third-seeded Utah in the MWC Championship game at 5:30 p.m.

Sophomore Chrissie Markham had two singles and two RBI to lead the SDSU offense, which finished the game with 10 hits. Freshman Erin Floros had two hits, while sophomore Taryin Casillas had a two-run single in the fifth inning. Freshman Monica Alnes singled in the second to extend her career-long hitting streak to 13 games.

Sophomore pitcher Christina Ross (15-8) took the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in 1/3 of an inning. Senior Celena Velasquez (3 2/3 innings, five hits, five runs (two earned)) and Alnes (3 innings, four hits, one run) also pitched for the Aztecs.
