Aztecs Cruise to 6-1 Victory Over Wyoming

SAN DIEGO - The 34th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team won the doubles point and took five of six singles matches to post a 6-1 victory over Wyoming Saturday afternoon at Aztec Tennis Center. The win marked SDSU's second straight and in the process, gave head coach Peter Mattera his 200th career victory. With their effort, the Aztecs improve to 13-6 (4-1 Mountain West Conference), while the Cowgirls fall to 7-12 (0-6 MWC).

San Diego State opened the contest in convincing fashion as it swept through doubles play. The Aztec combo of Dita Hauerlandova and Sisse Nielsen won for the fourth straight outing as they defeated Andrea House and Karolina Rowinski, 8-1, at first doubles. At No. 2, Alesya Vidov and Milana Yusupov posted their second consecutive victory with an 8-2 effort over their Cowgirl counterparts, while Esther Cadua and Yuki Hagiwara were 8-4 winners at No. 3.

The Aztecs took control of the match as Hauerlandova and Vidov notched straight sets victories at the top two singles positions giving SDSU a 3-0 advantage. With the Aztecs within one team point of clinching the overall win, Yuki Hagiwara turned in a 6-2, 6-2 performance over Amy Senko at No. 6, securing the contest for the home squad.

In addition, tallying singles wins for SDSU were Yusupov and Nielsen. At third singles, Yusupov emerged with a 7-5, 6-0 triumph over Andrea House with Nielsen giving the Aztecs their sixth team point with her 6-4, 6-0 effort at No. 4.

With the win, Mattera, in his 13th season as head women's tennis coach, has an overall record of 200-121 at SDSU.

San Diego State concludes its four-match homestand Sunday, April 9, as it plays host to Air Force. The league contest is scheduled for a 9 a.m. PDT start at Aztec Tennis Center.
