FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Sophomore Taryin Casillas hit a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning of the second game to give the San Diego State softball team a 4-2 victory and a doubleheader sweep over Colorado State Friday in Fort Collins, Colo. With the 4-2 win and the 6-2 triumph in the first game, the Aztecs (25-8) improved to 10-0 in the Mountain West Conference, their best league start in school history.

Freshman Erin Floros, who went 4-for-7 with two RBI over the two games, led off the seventh inning with a single and junior Amanda Beasley replaced her at first base. Beasley advanced to second base when sophomore Megan McDonald laid down a sacrifice bunt. Freshman Monica Alnes walked and Casillas followed with the two-run double to left field for the game-winning hit.

The Aztecs got their other runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Alnes laced a single off the Rams' (22-18, 3-9 MWC) second baseman to plate senior Meagan Hartung in the fifth and senior Bree Boyer knocked in sophomore Allison Smith, who reached base on her first triple of the season, with an RBI single in the sixth.

Floros and Smith each went 2-for-3 in the game for SDSU, while Alnes was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore pitcher Christina Ross (12-5) came in to relieve senior Celena Velasquez with runners on second and third with no outs in the fifth, and got out of the inning with a lineout, a strikeout and a groundout. She allowed one hit and struck out three batters in the final 3.0 innings to pick up the win. Velasquez pitched the first 4.0 innings of the game, and allowed two runs on nine hits.

In the first game, the Aztecs had five hits and scored four runs in their first five plate appearances en route to a 6-2 victory. Hartung led off the game with a double and moved to third base on a single by sophomore Tamani Wells. Following a steal by Wells, Floros singled through the left side to score Hartung. McDonald then hit her fifth home run of the season over the left field fence to give SDSU a 4-0 lead.

Floros singled home Wells in the fourth and Boyer scored in the sixth on a sacrifice bunt by Wells for the Aztecs' final two runs of the game.

Floros went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Wells was 1-for-2 with two runs and and an RBI. Hartung (2-for-4, run) contributed two hits for SDSU and McDonald went 1-for-4 with a homer and three RBI.

Ross pitched all 7.0 innings for the Aztecs and struck out a season-high nine batters. She allowed seven hits and two runs (one earned), and did not give up a walk. Ross got out of a jam in the third after allowing a pair of singles to Tara Harbert and Jessica Strickland, and committing a throwing error to move each runner up a base. With a runner on second and third with no outs, Ross retired the next three batters with a strikeout, a lineout and a groundout to end the inning.

SDSU will travel to New Mexico for a MWC doubleheader at noon MT Sunday.
