ST. GEORGE, Utah - The San Diego State women's golf team finished day one of the Mountain West Conference Championships on Thursday in fourth place with a first round score of 310 (+22). The Aztecs are 19 strokes behind leader and reigning MWC champ No. 12 UNLV, at the par-72, 6,299-yard Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club in St. George, Utah.
Freshman Alana Erlandson (Palm Desert, Calif.) leads SDSU after round one, with a score of 3-over 75, putting her in a tie for ninth with five other golfers on the individual leaderboard. Second among SDSU golfers is senior Megan Mulhaupt (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) who carded a 5-over 77 and finished the day in a tie for 18th. Freshman Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) fired a 6-over 78 to finish the first round tied for 21st.
The final two Aztec starters, junior Jamie Oliver (Los Alamitos, Calif.) and sophomore Anna Booth (Coffs Harbour, Australia), are currently tied with two other golfers for 25th. They both shot an 8-over 80.
Day one ended with a five-way tie for first place on the individual leaderboard. Three of the five golfers are Rebels (Young Pak, Seema Sadekar and Grace Woo), helping UNLV take a nine-stroke lead over second-place BYU. Rachel Newren of BYU and Mikaela Backstedt of New Mexico also sit atop the leaderboard. The five shot an even par 72.
SDSU begins the second round at 10 a.m. MDT.
