PALO ALTO, Calif. - Due to severe weather conditions in the Bay Area, the 17th ranked San Diego State men's golf team had no chance to improve their position from yesterday, as they ended the US Intercollegiate tournament, hosted by Stanford University, in a tie for sixth place with a 594 (+34) on the par-70, 6,742 yard Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif. The third round was cancelled due to early morning rainy conditions.
UCLA won the team title through two rounds with a 578 (+18), and Stanford sophomore, Rob Grube, won the individual title with a 5-under, 135.
As for the Aztecs, since the third round was called, they ended the tournament in the same position from the first two rounds yesterday. Senior Josh Warthen finished the tournament in a tie for 12th after carding a 145 (+5). Senior Andrew Scott, tied for 23rd and sophomore Aaron Goldberg, ended in 43rd. Sophomores Chad Moscovic and David Palm tied for 46th and 76th respectively, after two rounds of play.
In SDSU history, this is the first time since the 2001-02 season that the Aztecs have placed below the top-5 at the US Intercollegiate. Since 2002, the Aztecs have placed in third and posted back-to-back second place finishes. Two years ago, then-freshman Aaron Goldberg finished in first, after carding a 205 (-8).
On the weekend of April 27-29, the Aztecs will travel up to Sunriver, Ore. to participate in the Mountain West Conference champions.
