AZUSA, Calif. - San Diego State's Kristin Olafsdottir continued her amazing freshman campaign on Wednesday, setting outdoor personal bests in four events at the Mt. SAC Relays Heptathlon in Azusa, Calif. Olafsdottir tallied 3,168 points en route to a sixth-place finish, and sits just 169 points behind the leader Lauryn Jordan of Oregon (3,337 pts) after the first day of competition at Azusa Pacific University.
Olafsdottir began the meet on a high note, capturing first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best clocking of 14.14 seconds. The Reykjavik, Iceland, native then cleared 5-5 in the high jump, added a 33-3 mark in the shot put and ran a 25.12 in the 200 meters - all outdoor personal bests.
In conjunction with Wednesday's activities, APU also played host to a companion event, the California Invitational Heptathlon, which featured the Aztecs' Kristin Karhio. The junior transfer from Pacific Grove, Calif., also had an impressive performance, recording season bests in the 100 hurdles (15.37), high jump (5-3.75), shot put (33-6.5) and 200 (26.93) to finish the day in 10th place with 2,814 points.
Olafsdottir and Karhio are both scheduled to complete their respective events on Thursday, while the rest of the San Diego State track and field squad is slated to compete this weekend at the prestigious 48th Annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., April 13-15.
