SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team split a pair of games on the second day of the Aztec Classic at SDSU Softball Stadium on Saturday. The Aztecs (12-4) defeated Loyola Marymount, 7-2, for their seventh consecutive victory before falling to No. 25 Fresno State, 11-0, in six innings.

Against the Lions (8-8), SDSU scored three runs in the first inning and added two in the second to open up a 5-0 lead. Senior Meagan Hartung led off the game with a walk and advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Tamani Wells and a groundout by freshman Erin Floros. Following a walk to sophomore Megan McDonald, freshman Monica Alnes doubled to left-center field to plate Hartung. Two batters later, freshman Melissa Owens hit a two-run single to center to put the Aztecs up 3-0.

Hartung and Wells hit consecutive singles in the second and scored off a two-run single by McDonald, giving the Aztecs a five-run lead.

Loyola Marymount pulled to within three runs in the bottom of the fifth when Hillarie Bennett scored on a SDSU error and Chelsie Tysdal singled home Megan Ackerman.

However, the Aztecs added a run in the sixth when Wells scored on an error by the Lions' first baseman and another in the seventh as Casillas scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Bree Boyer.

Owens earned the win for SDSU after allowing no runs and five hits in four innings. She struck out five batters and did not give up a walk. In 17.0 innings this season, Owens is 3-0 with a team-low ERA of 0.39.

Junior Katie Cochran pitched the final three innings to pick up her first career save. She gave up five hits, two runs, both unearned, and struck out one.

Alnes (2-for-3), McDonald (2-for-3, two RBI), and Wells (2-for-3) each had two hits to lead the Aztec offense.

The second game wasn't as kind for SDSU as it couldn't find an answer to Fresno State's pitcher Robin Mackin. The freshman struck out seven over six innings en route to her first career no-hitter, and an 11-0 win for the Bulldogs (10-8).

Sophomore pitcher Christina Ross (4-3) was saddled with the loss after giving up five hits and four runs (three earned) over 3 1/3 innings. Cochran (eight hits, seven earned runs) pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for the Aztecs.

San Diego State will wrap up its play in the Aztec Classic with a game against No. 23 Oregon at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
