SAN DIEGO (AP) - John Sharper scored a career-high 26 points and set a Cox Arena record with eight 3-pointers as San Diego State beat South Dakota State 88-63 in the Aztecs' regular season finale Friday night.

San Diego State (21-8) won the regular-season Mountain West championship Wednesday and will begin the conference tournament in Denver on Thursday.

Sharper was 9-for-13 from the floor and 8-of-12 from beyond the arc.

He hit three straight 3s midway through the first half, fueling a 23-10 run as the Aztecs broke away from an 11-11 tie to take a 34-21 lead.

Sharper made five 3-pointers in the first half that ended with the Aztecs leading 44-35.

The previous Cox Arena record for 3s was seven, set by Al Faux on Dec. 30, 2000 against Oklahoma State. The San Diego State record is nine, set by Tony Ross on Dec. 27, 1986 against Manhattan.

Brandon Heath had 16 points for the Aztecs and Trimaine Davis had 14. Richie Williams had a career-high 11 assists to go with nine points and nine rebounds.

Michael Loney led the Jackrabbits (9-19) with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Ben Beran added 15 points.

South Dakota State is playing an independent schedule in its second season in Division I.
