SAN DIEGO - After finishing in first at the 2006 Callaway Golf Invitational, hosted by the University of San Diego, the 24th-ranked San Diego State men's golf team is hoping to extend their winning streak when they travel up Oregon to participate in the Oregon Duck Invitational, held on March 27-28 on the 6,807-yards, par-72 at the Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction City, Ore.
The invitational will have an 8 a.m. start on both days, with 36 holes scheduled for Monday and a final 18 on Tuesday.
The competition will feature a 12-team field that includes host University of Oregon, as well as UC Davis, UC Riverside, Oregon State, Washington State, Idaho State, Nevada, Pacific, Portland, Texas-Pan American and the Aztecs' conference rival, Wyoming. Last year's defending champions, the University of Washington, will not participate this year, but will have some individual players compete.
The Aztecs will be led by seniors Andrew Scott, who recently place in second at the 2006 Callaway Invitational, and Josh Warthen. Men's golf head coach, Ryan Donovan, also plans to start sophomores, Aaron Goldberg, David Palm and Cory Segall - all of whom placed in the top 10 at the Callaway Invitational.
This will be the seventh consecutive time that the Aztecs have participated in the Oregon Duck Invitational since the formation of the Mountain West. In 2004, SDSU placed first out of 14 teams, and the following year they placed second out of 16 teams. Scott led the Aztecs last year with a fifth place finish and a final score of 214.
