HONOLULU - The San Diego State softball team defeated Longwood, 4-2, at the Hawai'i Tournament on Friday night in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Aztecs improved their record to 15-7 with the victory, while the Lancers fell to 11-14.

After allowing a first inning run off a fielder's choice RBI by Shamana Washington, SDSU rallied for two runs in the bottom of the second and another in the third.

Sophomore Megan McDonald led off the second with a walk and advanced to second base on a single by freshman Monica Alnes. Sophomore Tamani Wells replaced McDonald at second where classmate Taryin Casillas moved both runners after reaching first on a fielder's choice bunt. Freshman Melissa Owens scored Wells on a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Following a walk to freshman Kasey Mytinger, senior Bree Boyer singled to center to plate Alnes with the Aztecs' second run of the game.

Sophomore Erin Floros scored SDSU's run in the third off a fielding error by the Lancers' left fielder Kristina Garrison.

Longwood responded with a run of its own in the fourth, when Caitlin Hooe singled home Victoria Masters.

However, it would not be enough as the Aztecs got another run in the sixth after McDonald's fielder's choice scored Boyer for the final run of the game.

Senior pitcher Celena Velasquez (5-3) scattered six hits and two runs to earn the complete game victory for SDSU. She struck out seven batters and allowed only one walk.

Boyer went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Aztec offense. Alnes and Floros each were 2-for-4 in the game, while Owens, Mytinger and senior Meagan Hartung had one hit apiece.

SDSU will continue its play in the Hawai'i Tournament with a game against Northwestern at 10 a.m. HT Saturday.
