HONOLULU - The San Diego State softball team dropped a pair of 1-0 games to Oklahoma State and Hawai'i at the Hawai'i Tournament in Honolulu on Thursday. The Aztecs fell to 14-7 on the season.

In SDSU's first game, the Cowgirls (12-12) scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the 1-0 victory. Kati Phillips was placed on second base because of the international tiebreaker rule and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Krystle Sanchez. Following a strikeout, Shanel Scott singled to Aztec shortstop Melissa Owens to plate Watson for the only run of the game.

Owens, a freshman, pitched 6 1/3 innings of scoreless ball for SDSU. She allowed five hits and struck out six batters before being relieved by senior Celena Velasquez with one out and a runner on second. Velasquez forced Shallan Watson to fly out to left fielder Tamani Wells and the Aztecs got the double play when Owens relayed Wells' throw to second baseman Allison Smith to tag the Oklahoma State runner at second.

Velasquez (4-3) allowed one hit and struck out one in 1 1/3 innings to take the loss for SDSU.

Four Aztecs - Wells (1-for-4), sophomore Megan McDonald (1-for-2), and freshmen Monica Alnes (1-for-2, walk) and Erin Floros (1-for-4) - each had a hit to lead the offense. In the second game, sophomore pitcher Christina Ross (6-4) allowed only one run on two hits in 6.0 innings, but SDSU still dropped a 1-0 decision to the host Rainbow Wahine (14-10).

Hawai'i scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the second inning when Kaulana Gold scored as Floros threw out Kristi Yoshizawa at second base on a steal attempt.

Floros (2-for-3) had two of SDSU's four hits in the game. Wells and senior Bree Boyer each went 1-for-2 for the Aztecs.

SDSU will continue its play in the Hawai'i Tournament with a game against Longwood at 4 p.m. HT.
