STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State scored 11 runs over first thee innings en route to a 16-6 victory over San Diego State at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium Wednesday evening. In completing the two-game sweep of SDSU, the Cowboys improved to 12-4 on the year. Meanwhile, the loss was the seventh straight for the Aztecs, who saw their record fall to 6-17.
Aztec starter Mark Triolo (0-1) allowed five runs in the first inning and pitched to just one batter in the second before leaving the game. It was the first career start for the freshman right-hander, who gave up six hits in his one inning-plus.
After falling behind 11-0, San Diego State rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth. A walk to Quintin Berry and single by Tim O'Brien preceded an RBI double by Lance Zawadzki. O'Brien scored on a base hit by Brock Ungricht with Zawadzki coming home on a sacrifice fly by Paul Smyth.
The Cowboys added four to their total in the sixth before SDSU got three of its own in the seventh on RBI hits by O'Brien and Ungricht.
O'Brien finished the night with three hit while Ungricht, Zawadzki and Nick Romero had two apiece.
Oklahoma State first baseman Rebel Ridling led a 21-hit attack that saw four of his teammates collect three hits apiece as well. The Cowboys also got home runs from Corey Brown, Adam Carr and Matt Clarkson.
The Aztecs now return home briefly before departing for Los Angles, where they will begin a three-game series at UCLA beginning Friday, March 17, at 6:00 p.m. at the Bruins' Jackie Robinson Stadium.
