HENDERSON, Nev. - Freshman Maki Kamimura fired a 3-under par 69 to lead the San Diego State women's golf team on the second day of the three-day, 54-hole UNLV Spring Invitational in Henderson, Nev., on Tuesday. The Aztecs improved two places on the day and are now tied for ninth at 608 with Indiana and Memphis on the par-72, 6,153-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club.
Kamimura jumped 28 places with her 3-under second round score, which was tied for the lowest on the day with New Mexico's Mikaela Backstedt and Campbell's Alejandra Shaw. The 69 also was the lowest posted by an Aztec this season.
Senior Heather MacRae is just one shot back after shooting a 2-over par 74 (tied-12th) and classmate Megan Mulhaupt ended the day in a tie for 66th with an 8-over 80.
Junior Jamie Oliver posted her second consecutive sub-80 score (79) and is tied in 72nd place at 158 (+14), while freshman Petra Cole's 81 dropped her back to a tie for 81st (161).
SDSU will compete in the final round of the UNLV Spring Invitational on Wednesday.
