SAN DIEGO - No. 40 San Diego State swept doubles play and won five of six singles matches to extend its longest winning streak since 2003 to six matches as it defeated Wisconsin, 6-1, Monday afternoon at Aztec Tennis Center. That year SDSU won eight in a row en route to a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The victory improves Aztecs' record to 9-4, while the Badgers fall to 3-9 on the season.
San Diego State jumped out of the gates early when Alesya Vidov and Eliska Krausova used an 8-2 effort to defeat Nicole Beck and Chelsea Nusslock at No. 2. Not long after, the Aztecs claimed the doubles point as Esther Cadua and Milana Yusupov notched an 8-4 win at No. 3, while Dita Hauerlandova and Sisse Nielsen completed the sweep with an 8-6 victory at the top position.
The Aztecs' success carried over to singles play as SDSU won five straight matches to give itself a 6-0 lead and the win. In the process, four personal winning streaks were kept intact, beginning with Krausova who extended her streak to seven as a result of her 6-1, 6-3 performance at No. 3.
Nielsen put SDSU within one point of the win after she beat Morgan Tuttle in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. The win moved her consecutive victories streak to four with the decisive factor coming at No. 6 singles. Cadua, who dropped her last match, returned to her winning ways and breezed through Lexi Golden, 6-1, 6-2, to give the Aztecs their ninth win of the season.
Rounding things out for the Aztecs were Yusupov (No. 4) and Vidov (No. 2) who ran their winning streaks to three and five matches, respectively.
San Diego State will have 11 days off before it begins conference play on March 24 when it opens up against Utah in Las Vegas, Nev. The league contest is set for 9 a.m. PST at Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV.
