SAN DIEGO - No. 54 San Diego State women's tennis upset its second straight Pac-10 Conference opponent in 36th-ranked Oregon, 4-3, Monday afternoon at Aztec Tennis Center. The match, which took just under five hours to complete, was finished under the lights as Esther Cadua won a third-set tiebreaker to secure SDSU's fourth consecutive victory. The Aztecs improve to 7-4 on the season, while the Ducks watch their record fall to 10-2.

San Diego State started the day by losing the doubles point for the first time in two matches. The Aztec duo of Alesya Vidov and Eliska Krausova defeated Monica Hoz de Vila and Claudia Hirt, 8-3, at No. 2 for their fourth straight win, but their effort was not enough as Oregon claimed victories at the other two positions to take the early lead.

The Ducks' cushion increased to 2-0 as Hoz de Vila won in straight sets over Yuki Hagiwara at No. 6, 6-2, 6-4.

The Aztecs finally dented the scoreboard when Vidov used a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 effort to beat Anna Powaska at No. 2 to post her third consecutive win, cutting Oregon's lead to one. However, the Ducks regained the point after No. 44 Dominika Dieskova defeated Hauerlandova in three sets at the top position.

With SDSU trailing 3-1, Krausova escaped with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 decision over Ana Cecilia Olivos at No. 3 to bring the Aztecs to within one with two matches remaining.

At No. 4, Milana Yusupov, similar to three of the four completed matches, found herself engaged in a three-set battle with Carmen Seremeta. The freshman from Holon, Israel, won the first set, 6-4, dropped the second 4-6 and pulled out the victory in the third with a 7-6 win.

With the score knotted at 3-3, the match came down to the result at No. 5 between freshman Esther Cadua and Leksinska. The contest was a competitive one as the first set went to a tiebreaker, one that Oregon would win, 7-6. The second was more of the same as Cadua fought for the 7-5 decision forcing a third set.

The final frame was a back-and-forth affair with Cadua emerging with a 6-5 lead only to have Leksinska force a tiebreaker. The Oregon senior won the first point and increased it to a 5-2 advantage. Then with Cadua serving, the freshman tied it at 5-5, won the match, and gave SDSU the victory with a 7-5 effort in the tiebreak.

San Diego State will return to the courts Thursday, March 9, when it plays host to 41st-ranked North Carolina State at Aztec Tennis Center. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. PST start.
