SAN DIEGO - San Diego State won its second consecutive match by shutting out Idaho, 7-0, in a neutral site match at Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, Wash. The Aztecs swept doubles and singles play to improve to 5-4 overall on the season.
SDSU swept doubles action for just the third time this year and won the doubles point for the first time five matches. The Aztecs top tandem of Dita Hauerlandova and Sisse Nielsen snapped their three-match losing streak by disposing of Patricia Ruman and Mariel Tinnirello, 8-0. Alesya Vidov and Eliska Krausova, playing together for just the second time this season won by a score of 8-5 at No. 2, while Milana Yusupov and Esther Cadua were 8-2 winners at No. 3.
Singles was more of the same as all six players notched straight set wins. Hauerlandova defeated Ruman at the top position by a final tally of 6-4, 6-0, while Vidov used a 6-3, 6-2 effort to beat Tinnirello at No. 2.
Krausova, who extended her winning streak to three matches, cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Efrat Leopold at the third position for her sixth win of the dual-match season. At No. 4, Yusupov was a 6-4, 6-4 winner, while Nielsen stopped a four-match losing skid by defeating Lauren Shrubb, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5. Cadua's result at No. 6 sealed the shutout for the Aztecs as she posted a 6-1, 6-3 win.
The 54th-ranked Aztecs hit the courts Saturday, March 4, as they take on No. 38 Washington in Seattle. The match is set to get underway at noon PST.
