San Diego State senior Heather MacRae (Dunblane, Scotland) tied for ninth place in a field of 100 golfers Tuesday with a two-round score of 3-over 147 at the Kitahara Fresno State Invite. MacRae's performance helped the Aztecs finish 15th in the team standings at 45-over 621, including a tournament best 305 in the final 18 holes, at the par-72, 6,004-yard Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif.
The event was won by UC Irvine, which posted a two-day total of 571. The Anteaters beat second place Long Beach State by nine strokes, while UCI's Selanee Henderson easily captured medalist honors with her impressive 7-under 137.
MacRae logged a 74 in Tuesday's final round for her fifth individual top-10 finish in six outings this season. Her two-day score of 147 beat her previous career best for 36 holes by one stroke and is tied for fourth in the Aztec record book with Sandy Kim's 2001 effort at the Pioneer Intercollegiate. The senior tied for ninth place at the Kitahara Fresno State Invite with New Mexico State's Lehua Wise and UC Davis' Danielle Cvitanov.
MacRae was one of two SDSU players to log a 74 on Tuesday, as classmate Megan Mulhaupt (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) jumped 13 spots in the individual standings to tie for 47th with a two-day and career-best total of 9-over 153. Freshman Heather Wilson (Chula Vista, Calif.) improved her first round score by eight strokes to end up tied for 75th with a 160, while freshman Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) and sophomore Anna Booth (Coffs Harbour, Australia) finished 84th and 99th, respectively.
The Aztecs take two weeks off before heading to Las Vegas, Nev., for the UNLV Spring Invitational, March 13-15, at the par-72, 6,009-yard Black Mountain Golf Course.
