SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, HAWAII - In a tough competition field, the 18th-ranked San Diego State men's golf team finished in fourth at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate with a final team score of 279-275-277--831 (-33) at the Leilehua Golf Course in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Nearly half of the teams that participated in the intercollegiate where ranked in the top-50 on the Golfweek/Sagarin weekly poll. SDSU's performance throughout the tournament helped lift them above no. 7 UNLV, no. 19 Texas A&M, no. 25 Arizona, no. 43 Denver, and no. 32 Auburn, who led for much of the tournament. This is the fifth-consecutive time that the Aztecs placed in the top-5 in the 2005-06 season.
Andrew Scott continued to put forth a stellar performance, carding a 4-under, 68 in the final round to move him up into a tie for third. Scott's 8-under, 64 second-round score yesterday was the lowest 18-hole score to be carded in all three rounds of the intercollegiate.
Sophomore David Palm shot a final round score of 5-under, 67, which pushed him up from 58th into a 12-way tie for 25th place. Senior Josh Warthen finished in 37th with carding a final score of 211 and sophomore Aaron Goldberg finished tied for 42nd with a 3-under, 213.
The Aztecs will return to action on Feb. 27 when they travel to Westlake Village, Calif. to take part in the Ashworth Collegiate Intercollegiate.
