SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, HAWAII - The 18th-ranked San Diego State men's golf team moved into a three-way tie for fourth place after finishing the second day of tournament play with a 22-under 554 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate held at the Leilehua Golf Course in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Senior Andrew Scott led the Aztecs with an 8-under 64, putting him in a six-way tie for fourth. Scott is just three strokes behind individual leader, Jay Moseley of Auburn. Scott's second-round score of 64 is the second-best 18-hole score in Aztec history. The lowest 18-hole score came from Mark Warman at the 2003 U.S. Intercollegiate when he shot a 62. Thursday's performance was Scott's career- and season-best performance for a single 18-hole round.
Sophomore Aaron Goldberg and senior Josh Warthen both finished with an under par second-round score of 67 and 70, respectively. Goldberg finished in a seven-way tie for 18th and Warthen rounded out the top-50, in a tie for 48th place.
Unfortunately, John Gray and David Palm, who led the Aztecs yesterday, struggled Thursday as Gray shot a 6-over 78 knocking him down to 79th, while Palm shot a 2-over 74, moving him down to 58th.
SDSU will conclude their final day of tournament play tomorrow morning with a 7:30 a.m. HST shotgun start.
