WAHIAWA, Hawaii - The No. 18 San Diego State men's golf team completed first round action of the John Burns Intercollegiate with a 9-under 279 to end the day in a three-way tie for sixth with New Mexico and Southern Methodist at the par-72, 6,916-yard Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
Leading the way for the Aztecs was John Gray, who carded a 4-under 68 to finish in a six-way tie for 10th. The junior from Vista, Calif., shot a 32 on the front nine and entered the clubhouse with a second-round score of 36 to find himself only three shots behind the leader from Long Beach State, Brett Lederer (-7).
Sophomore David Palm found himself not far off the pace as he shot a 3-under 69 and is currently in a tie for 16th. Senior Andrew Scott and sophomore Aaron Goldberg find themselves tied for 39th after shooting a 1-under 71, while senior Josh Warthen is in a tie for 55th after posting an even par-72 round.
Auburn leads the tournament after shooting a 15-under 273 and the Aztecs will look to cut into the Tigers' lead when they begin the second round with a 7:30 a.m. HST shotgun start.
