BERKELEY, Calif. - The San Diego State women's tennis team, ranked 52nd nationally, dropped a 7-0 decision to sixth-ranked California Friday afternoon at Hellman Tennis Center. With the loss, the Aztecs fall to 3-2 on the season, while the Golden Bears improve to 5-1.
In doubles action, SDSU's top duo of Sisse Nielsen-Dita Hauerlandova remained undefeated on the year by winning their fourth consecutive match thanks to an 8-4 effort to defeat Stephanie Kusano and Suzi Babos. However, the Aztecs could not pull out wins at Nos. 2-3, despite a strong showing by Eliska Krausova and Esther Cadua, who lost 9-7, giving California the early lead.
As the match moved on into singles play, San Diego State could not overcome a Golden Bear lineup that featured five ranked players as SDSU lost all six matches to provide the final outcome.
The Aztecs return to the courts Tuesday, Feb. 14, as they play host to Southern California at Aztec Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
