SAN DIEGO (AP) - Mohamed Abukar and Brandon Heath scored 22 points apiece as San Diego State outlasted Colorado State 83-75 Wednesday in the Mountain West opener for both teams.

San Diego State used fast starts in both halves to take control. The Aztecs led by as many as 17 points in the second half. That was whittled to just a single point, 73-72, with 2:42 left to play before Abukar and Richie Williams sparked a 10-3 run to finish the game.

Abukar was 10-for-12 from the field and Williams was six-of-six from the free-throw line for San Diego State (8-5, 1-0 conference).

Colorado State (11-4, 0-1 conference), got 21 points from Michael Harrison.

Harrison, Sean Morris (13 points) and Corey Lewis (11 points) helped the Rams to their second-half rally before an intentional foul by Colorado State's Michael Morris led to a pair of free-throws by Marcus Slaughter that stopped the momentum.

Slaughter, San Diego State's leading scorer and rebounder, was returning to action for the first time in 18 days following a knee injury on Dec. 17. He scored six points and came up with 11 rebounds before fouling out in the final minute of play.
