SAN DIEGO - Joe Bob Clements, William Inge and Del Miller have been named assistant football coaches, San Diego State head coach Chuck Long announced Monday. Clements (defensive line) and Miller (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks) join the Aztecs from Kansas State, while Inge (linebackers) most recently worked at the University of Colorado after four seasons at the University of Northern Iowa.

Clements comes to SDSU after seven years at Kansas State University where he also worked with new Aztec defensive coordinator Bob Elliott. Clements served as the Wildcats' defensive ends coach from 2003-05 and took on added duties as recruiting coordinator the last two seasons. In 2003, K-State led the nation in sacks and was ranked sixth in the nation in total defense en route to a Big 12 title and a spot in the Fiesta Bowl.

The Emporia, Kan., native was elevated to the full-time staff after two seasons as both a graduate (2001-02) and student (1999-2000) assistant coach with the Wildcats. A former walk-on, Clements was a defensive end at Kansas State for four years, logging 107 career tackles in 41 games and garnering Big 12 honorable mention honors as a senior in 1998. He earned his bachelor's degree in public relations at K-State in 1999.

Inge also has Midwest ties, but most recently worked at the University of Colorado as the defensive line coach in 2005, when the Buffalos advanced to the Big 12 championship game and were ranked in the top 25. He moved to Boulder following four years at the University of Northern Iowa, where he was the co-defensive and special teams coordinator in 2004, after also directing the Panthers' linebackers (2001-02) and defensive line (2003).

Inge was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Iowa from 1993-96, starting 31 games and recording 173 career tackles, including 24 sacks. As a senior, he served as team co-captain and garnered honorable mention Big 10 and first team all-academic honors. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1996, before working as a graduate assistant football coach and athletic department recruiting coordinator at his alma mater. A native of Kirkwood, Mo., Inge also has a master's degree in sports administration and management from Iowa (1999).

Miller has over 25 years of experience at the collegiate level, including stints at Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Iowa. He also spent four years as head coach at Missouri State (I-AA) and has been an offensive coordinator at the I-A level for 10 seasons. Miller most recently was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at K-State from 2003-05, helping the Wildcats to the 2003 Big 12 Championship and a spot in the Fiesta Bowl, averaging 37 points and 441 yards of total offense per contest.

A three-year letterwinner at Central College in Iowa, Miller was the defensive ends coach for the 2002 Kansas State squad which led the nation in total defense (243.9 ypg.) and scoring defense (10.6 ppg.) en route to a 10-2 record and a No. 8 final national ranking. He also was the Wildcats' offensive tackles coach in 1999 and assistant for football operations in 2001, which sandwiched a one-year stint at Oklahoma State, in which he was the Cowboys' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

The native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Iowa in 1978, after earning his master's degree in physical education from Northern Iowa in 1976. Miller was elevated to the full-time staff in 1979, where he was the Hawkeyes' recruiting coordinator for 10 seasons, and assisted future K-State head coach Bill Snyder with the quarterbacks and wide receivers.

Miller was Snyder's first hire at Kansas State in 1989, and helped lay the foundation for one of the biggest turnarounds in college football history. Miller was the Wildcats' offensive coordinator for six seasons and also worked with the quarterbacks and wide receivers. He was promoted to assistant head coach in 1991, the year K-State recorded its first winning season in nine years.

In addition to the three new hires, Long also announced that LeCharls McDaniel and Brian Stark will continue as members of the Aztec staff. McDaniel enters his second year of his third stint at SDSU, and will work with the wide receivers, which he coached with the Aztecs in 2002. Stark, meanwhile, begins his seventh year on The Mesa and has been named the director of football operations, the same position he held at SDSU from 2000-01.
