SAN DIEGO - San Diego State football players paid a visit to the Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher House at the Naval Medical Center San Diego Friday afternoon. The 10 players, along with interim athletic director Steve Becvar, helped boost morale and show their support for those serving in the local armed forces.
The student-athletes and the troops, many whom were injured in war in Iraq, played pool and exchanged stories about their experiences on the football field and in combat.
"Today was a great chance to show our appreciation for the men and women who serve our country," Becvar said. "Their dedication and sacrifices on a daily basis really puts our lives and priorities into perspective. The interaction our players had with the military personnel was tremendous."
The house is one of 32 Fisher locations on 17 military installations in the United States. It provides family members of those hospitalized with food and a place to stay during stressful times.
The event continues a show of support in building an ongoing relationship between the SDSU athletic department and the San Diego military community.
