Annual SDSU Football Awards Handed Out At Banquet Dinner

SAN DIEGO - Senior linebacker Freddy Keiaho was one of two Aztecs to take home two awards at the annual Aztec football awards banquet held in Poway on Tuesday evening. Keiaho received the John Simcox Most Valuable Player Award; the third straight year in which a SDSU linebacker has taken home the honor. He also shared the Dr. R. Hardy/C.E. Peterson Captain's Award with quarterback Kevin O'Connell.

Defensive end Kurt Kahui was the other Aztec to take home two awards. Kahui and senior wide receiver Jeff Webb shared the Byron H. Chase Memorial Award, given to the most outstanding offensive and defensive players. Kahui was also voted the team's most inspirational player.

In all, 12 awards were handed out during the event. The President's Award for Highest Standards of Academic and Athletic Excellence was given out to senior Adam Miller, junior Patrick Justman, sophomore Matt Callahan, and freshman Josh Ulibarri. This is the third year in a row Justman has received the award and second consecutive year for Callahan.

The Mighty 1090's John Kentera presided over the event with members the coaching staff and athletic administration in attendance.
