SAN DIEGO - A number of San Diego State student-athletes have jumped into the holiday season by participating in several projects to better the community, including the YMCA's family adoption program, Snow Day, held at the Fairbanks Country Club, and the Junior Seau Foundation-Shop with a Jock program.
On Thursday, Aztec student-athletes will participate in the YMCA Family Adoption program in which the athletes will collect money from teammates to be used toward gifts, such as clothes, linens and blankets, for underprivileged families identified by the East County YMCA.
This Sunday, Dec. 11, over 20 student-athletes and coaches will help out with San Diego's Snow Day, held at the Fairbanks Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe. The event will have a snow machine that will bring snow down for the youths living in this temperate San Diegan climate.
Finally, the Junior Seau Foundation-Shop with a Jock program will take place on Monday, Dec. 12, at Mervyns on Sports Arena Boulevard, starting at 6:45 p.m. Children will pair up with collegiate and professional athletes for the annual event and will be given a 100 dollar gift card to shop at the store for gifts for their families.
Along with the San Diego State student-athletes, other local sports organizations including the San Diego Chargers and San Diego Padres will participate in the Shop with a Jock. The event will feature over 100 representatives from various Aztec teams, by far the largest contingency of volunteers of the participating groups.
