SAN DIEGO (AP) - Junior guard Brandon Heath scored 25 points to lead San Diego State to an 84-68 nonconference victory over Loyola Marymount on Saturday.
Heath made five 3-point baskets and had three steals as the Aztecs improved to 7-5. Loyola Marymount lost its fifth straight game and fell to 3-11.
San Diego State freshman point guard Richie Williams had his best game of the season, with 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
The Aztecs made 10-of-18 3-point attempts and outrebounded the Lions 42-25. Loyola Marymount shot just 41.4 percent from the field.
San Diego State led 42-30 at halftime before Loyola Marymount started the second half with seven consecutive points. The Aztecs countered with a 9-2 run in which Heath scored five points, including a 3-pointer that gave the the team a 51-39 lead with 14:08 remaining.
Senior guard John Sharper hit two 3s in a 37-second span a short time later to make it 61-46 with 10:07 to play.
Loyola Marymount was led by senior guard Wes Wardrop, who had 19 points and six assists and sophomore guard Jon Ziri who added 14 points.
Mohamed Camara was ejected from the game after he intentionally head butted Loyola Marymount center Chris Ayer late in the first half. Ayer left with a bloody gash underneath his right eye but returned to action in the second half.
