SAN DIEGO - Kamal O.K. Scott (San Diego)What is the latest on getting CSTV on our local cable providers? From what I understand, starting next year, CSTV is required to be carried in the MWC markets.

This is a timely question, particularly because of the events of the last week in relation to CSTV. Of course you know that next fall we will begin our exclusive Mountain West Conference agreement with CSTV.

As you may have seen in the news, CBS Television, which is owned by Viacom, on Wednesday announced its purchase of CSTV. This is great news for SDSU and the Mountain West Conference, as it solidifies our position and distribution in the martketplace through CBS. Distribution of Mountain West Conference game, and in particular SDSU games, on local television will be assured.

Cox Cable had already agreed to bring CSTV on board its cable system beginning next summer, and we have been very pleased and gratified by the partnership forged with Cox and its management team, particularly Bill Geppert and Dan Novak. Time Warner Cable is of course an important cable company that we trust will carry CSTV on its systems as well, and we are continuing to work toward that outcome too. CSTV is already on satellite systems, and is available in the San Diego area through whatever satellite company you might be subscribing to.

The expanded coverage provided by our new CSTV agreement will mean increased exposure for many Aztec sports in addition to football and men's basketball. These will include volleyball, women's basketball, softball, baseball, soccer, and others. The width and breadth of coverage for Mountain West Conference sports will be second to none in the country!

As you can tell, we are very excited about all this. The exposure for our teams, and in particular our student-athletes and coaches, will be tremendous!

Thanks for the question. GO AZTECS!
