Recap | Final Stats | Notes
SAN DIEGO - SDSU Head Coach Steve Fisher
On The Game:
"I thought our defense did pretty well until the last five to six minutes. Our focus was to not give up any easy baskets and I thought we did that until the last five to six minutes. We had plenty of turnovers. In the last three minutes, Richie Williams showed his (inexperience), but overall he played really well. I don't know if Saint Xavier is a good team, but I do know that they competed really hard and were tough on us tonight.
"This is a good experience for us. They showed us where we needed to improve on our defense and I think they did just a good job overall. Tonight's experience was like taking baby steps towards reaching our goal, but I feel that there was enough to learn from tonight and improve."
On Richie Williams:
"The good thing about Richie is he pushes the ball and creates opportunities and we really got to see that tonight."
Saint Xavier Head Coach Tom O'Malley
On Marcus Slaughter:
"(Marcus) Slaughter is a heck of a player out there. He has a lot of quickness and we just couldn't combat his quickness."
On the Aztec defense:
"We expected (SDSU) would be quicker than us. We thought we could get into our offense. They took us out of our offense with their quickness. The double-team on Jabari (Saunders) bothered him a little bit. That was something where they knew he was a pretty good post player and they weren't going to let him do a lot in the post."
On Richie Williams:
"He is pretty quick. We don't have anyone quick enough to guard him."
On San Diego State:
"They are going to be a nice team once they get the whole package together. I think they have another big man sitting out. If you can move Slaughter to forward and put another post player out there, that is a pretty tough team to deal with especially if they keep running and moving the way they do on offense."
