LAS VEGAS - San Diego State had three players set careers high with two turning in double-double performances, but fell in four games at UNLV (30-24, 24-30, 32-30, 32-30) Friday night in Las Vegas. The match saw the hosts win the final two games in extra time as the Rebels improved to 8-8 overall and 4-1 in Mountain West Conference play to take over sole possession of third place. The Aztecs, meanwhile, saw a short three-match win streak stopped as they fell to 11-6 (3-2 MWC).
SDSU right side hitter Audra Dent led the Aztecs with a career-high 22 kills on the night, surpassing her previous personal best of 14 set last season vs. James Madison.
Sophomore libero Aime Cordeiro had 35 digs over the four games, the most ever in a four-game match by an Aztec and second-most ever by an SDSU in a match. Her effort tied the total turned in by Angela Rock vs. Texas during the 1984 season. It was the most digs in a match by an Aztec since 1997 and only the eighth time ever that an SDSU player surpassed the 30-dig mark in a match.
Both Melanie Greene (13 kills, 17 digs) and Brandie Molnar (11 kills, 19 digs) had double-doubles for San Diego State. For Molnar, her dig total was a career best and her first double-digit effort as a collegiate player. Greene's 17 digs tied her personal high of 17 against UCLA that came during her freshman season at the Washington State.
In addition, senior middle blocker Lindsey Noll contributed 18 kills and hit .455 while adding seven blocks. With those numbers, she improved her season attack percentage to a team-leading .334 and is now averaging 1.14 blocks per game.
UNLV's Laura Miramontes led all players with 23 kills and was one of four Rebels to finish in double figures in that category.
Up next for San Diego State is a match with cross-town rival University of San Diego on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7:00 p.m. (PDT) in Peterson Gym.
