SOMIS, Calif. - The Aztecs returned to play today in full swing to take first on the opening day of competition at the Club Glove tournament, hosted by Pepperdine.

In the tight race for first, the Aztecs edged over Pepperdine by one stroke to finish with a 292.

"We made it a goal to win a tournament during the fall portion of our season and we are on track to do that," head coach Ryan Donovan said. "The guys have been coming together as a team and it showed today on a difficult course. We need to be patient tomorrow. If we hit fairways and greens it will be awfully difficult to catch us."

The Aztecs were led by sophomore David Palm who scored a first round 37 and a second-round 31 to lead all scorers with a 4-under, 68. Travis Bertoni (Cal Poly), Derek Tolan (Colorado) and Colin Wilcox (Pepperdine) all finished, tied for second, with an even-par 72.

Along with Palm, three more Aztecs finished in the top-20. Josh Warthen tied for fifth with a one-over 73. Sophomore Chad Moscovic, shy of finishing in the top-10, tied for 11th with a first round score of 75 (+3), and senior Andrew Scott came in tied for 15th with a 76 (+4).

The Aztecs close out the final round of play of the Club Glove tournament tomorrow.
