* Senior wide receiver Robert Ortiz entered the school's top 10 in career receptions tonight.... Ortiz, who came into the game with 124 catches, surpassed Craig Scoggins (129), who played for the Aztecs in 1965-66... Ortiz has caught a pass in 29 of his last 30 games.
* Sophomore punter Michael Hughes has 16 punts that have been downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line this season. His total easily eclipses last year's total of 12... Two of his punts tonight have been downed inside the five-yard line.
* San Diego State true freshman nose tackle Jonathan Soto and Justin Amaral made their first career starts. So far this season, 15 different Aztecs have made their first career start, including 11 on the defensive side of the ball.
* San Diego State sophomore linebacker Brett Martin recorded his first career interception in the first quarter. Nine different Aztecs have accounted for the team's 11 picks this year. Sturm and Marcus Demps are the only two Aztecs to have multiple interceptions (two) this season.
* Aztec notes: Aztec junior wide receiver Justin Amaral's 22-yard rush in the first quarter was his first offensive play from scrimmage this season...
