SAN DIEGO - DAY TWO SINGLES RESULTS | DAY TWO DOUBLES RESULTS | DAY TWO CONSOLATION RESULTS
The Aztec doubles team of senior Dita Hauerlandova and sophomore Sisse Nielsen advanced to the third round of the 2005 Wilson/ITA West Region Championships hosted by San Diego State and the University of San Diego at Barnes Tennis Center Friday morning.
After receiving a first-round bye, Hauerlandova and Nielsen faced UC Irvine's Lisa Shih and Jayme Hu. The Aztec tandem experienced no problems in their first collegiate match together, cruising to an 8-3 victory. With the win, the SDSU pair will face Sandra Rocha and Katy Williams of Long Beach State in the round of 16 Saturday morning.
In main draw singles action, all four Aztecs suffered defeat in the third round with three of them falling to three of the tournament's top six seeds.
Freshman Esther Cadua, following a decisive 6-0, 6-0, win over Hana Im of Cal State Northridge in the second round Thursday, drew second-seeded Elena Gantcheva of UNLV and fell, 6-4, 6-2.
Two other Aztecs experienced the same fate as sophomore Eliska Krausova dropped a 6-3, 6-2, decision to fifth-seeded Anca Anastasiu of USC, while Nielsen fell to Anastasiu's teammate in No. 6 seed Dianne Matias, 6-1, 6-4.
San Diego State's only remaining seed, 12th-seeded Alesya Vidov, dropped a 6-2, 7-5, decision to Rocha.
In the consolation draw, Hauerlandova tasted victory twice as she defeated UC Irvine's Heidi Kaloi, 6-1, 6-1, and Rachel Porsz of Long Beach State, 6-0, 6-4.
Day three action of the 2005 Wilson/ITA West Region Championships resumes tomorrow at Barnes Tennis Center beginning at 9 a.m.
