PROVO, Utah - San Diego State began its weekend trip to Utah with a 3-0 (30-22, 30-27, 30-25) loss at the hands of 15th-ranked Brigham Young Friday night in Provo. The Cougars, one of only four undefeated teams in the Division I ranks, improved to 17-0 (9-0 Mountain West Conference) with the victory as they posted their seventh straight shutout win. SDSU saw its record fall to 12-8 overall and 4-3 in league play as it dropped one spot to fifth in the conference standings.
San Diego State was led by a 10-kill performance from senior Lindsey Noll, who hit a team-leading .381 for the match. However, she was held without a block for the first time during the 2005 season.
Both Audra Dent and Melanie Greene notched nine kills apiece for the Aztecs, who hit .223 over the three games compared for .414 for the home side. Sophomore libero Aime Cordeiro had 17 digs to add to her league-leading average in that category.
One big difference in the match was at the net where San Diego State was uncharacteristically out-blocked on the night. BYU amassed a total of 14 team blocks to just four for SDSU. It was a season-low block total for the Aztecs, who were led by Lindsey Mahan with three block assists.
Chelsea Goodman and Erica Lott took match honors with 15 kills apiece for Brigham Young. Lindsy Hartsock and Rachel Dyer each contributed seven block assists for BYU as well.
San Diego State continues it weekend trip with a match against the University of Utah in Salt Lake City tomorrow evening (Saturday, Oct. 22) at 7:00 p.m. (PDT).
