SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore Nima Ossareh fell in straight sets on Wednesday to Matt Fortune of Loyola Marymount, 7-5, 6-1, in the qualifying round of the 2005 Wilson/ITA West Regional Championships at Pepperdine University's Ralphs-Stratus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif.
Meanwhile, in opening round doubles action Wednesday, the Aztec duo of junior Anthony Gomez and sophomore Robert Sabo was defeated by Ivan d'Argence Arceo and Grant Robertson of UC Santa Barbara, 8-6.
The main draw for singles commences on Thursday, while doubles action also continues on Thursday. Junior Markus Dickhardt will face Ivan d'Argence Arceo of UCSB, senior Eugenio Romero takes on Nathan Stadler of Southern California, senior Stephan Timu matches up against Nick Hegarty of Arizona State, junior Christian Groh squares off against Nick Brotman of UCSB, Gomez will face Kaes Van't Hof of USC, while Sabo takes on Mustafa Ulukan of UC Irvine.
Over in the doubles bracket, the tandem of Groh and Timu will face Matt Fortune and Reyniere Roxas of LMU, while Dickhardt and Romero square off against Mike Meschede and Matt Ozurovich of the University of San Diego.
