FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego State men's golf team finished their first day of play at the Fresno State Lexus Classic in first, after carding a team 283-284--567.

The Aztecs finished just three strokes below of the University of Denver (570) and nine under University of San Diego (576).

Along with a first place finish after the first day, the San Diego State men's golf team also finished with four out of its six participating players in the top-25, and three of those four in the top-10.

Sophomore Aaron Goldberg tied for third, sharing the spot with Adam Hagen (Nevada), Derrick Whiting (Colorado State) and Chadd Cocco (St. Mary's), all of whom carded a 140, on the 6,776 yard, par-71 course at the San Joaquin Country Club in Fresno, Calif.

Senior Andrew Scott and junior John Gray tied for 9th, and sophomore David Palm, who won the Club Glove tournament alongside Josh Warthen last week, finished tied for 18th. Warthen tied for 41st with a 148 and sophomore Chad Moscovic tied for 45th with a score of 149.

Sophomores Jamie Puterbaugh and Cory Segall also participated in the tournament, unattached to the team.

The Aztecs will return to play tomorrow, teeing off the third and final round at 8 a.m. PST. Live scoring will be available on golfstat.com.
