LUBBOCK, Texas - San Diego State opened play at the Red Raider Round-Up Friday morning by dropping a 3-1 decision (30-17, 30-24, 25-30, 30-15) decision to host Texas Tech at the United Spirit Arena. Three Red Raiders finished in double figures in kills as the Aztecs could muster just a .045 attack percentage for the match.
Audra Dent and Alicia Waller led SDSU (3-3) with nine kills apiece while Melanie Greene chipped in with seven.
It was the fifth time in six matches that Dent finshed with nine kills. She also had three blocks. Waller,meanwhile, had 11 digs and a pair of service aces as she maintained her league-leading average of .60 aces per game. Libero Cordeiro continued her steady play in the back row with a match-high 19 digs.
Texas Tech (5-2) was led by a 17-kill performance from Kenyan Philister Sang, who also recorded three service aces, six digs and five blocks. Her teammates Kiley Lyons and Robyn Bucy had 12 and 11 kills respectively. The Red Raiders hit .224 as a team.
San Diego continues play in Lubbock this evening (Friday, Sept. 9) when it faces Boise State at 5:00 p.m. (CDT).
