PISCATAWAY, N.J. - San Diego State men's soccer played to a double-overtime, 0-0 tie, against fifth-ranked St. John's at the Phillips/adidas Soccer Classic in Piscataway, N.J., on Saturday afternoon. After compiling the same record at St. John's over the two-day event, SDSU (1-0-1) finished as runnerup in the tournament on goals scored.

Aztec goalkeeper Tally Hall was named the defensive MVP of the classic while teammates Matt Couch and Heath Creager (along with Hall) were named to the all-tournament team.

The first half saw SDSU outshoot St. John's, 10-2, in the first half, but the second half was the complete opposite. The Red Storm (1-0-1) came to life offensively in the second half, but were unable to penetrate the Aztec defense and score.

San Diego State goalkeeper Tally Hall stopped two shots while playing the entire 110 minutes. The shutout is Hall's second of the season after blanking Rutgers on Friday night.

For the afternoon, SDSU managed 15 shots and were led by Raul Bautista's four shots, three of which were on goal. Kraig Chiles added three shots, while Johann Helgason recorded two. Of the Aztecs' 15 shots, six were on goal compared to the Red Storm's two.

San Diego State returns to action next Sat., Sept. 10, for its home opener against UC Riverside. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at the SDSU Sports Deck.
