SAN DIEGO (AP) - Maurice Drew raced 64 yards for a touchdown on UCLA's first play from scrimmage and the Bruins never let up, beating San Diego State 44-21 Saturday night to keep the Aztecs winless in this series.
Drew finished with three touchdowns - including a 72-yard punt return - and his backup, Chris Markey, scored twice. Drew carried 11 times for 114 yards and two scores. He cramped up early in the third quarter, was treated in the locker room and didn't play again.
Tight end Marcedes Lewis caught seven passes for 131 yards.
UCLA improved to 20-0-1 against the Aztecs, with the tie coming in 1924. The Bruins have outscored the Aztecs 672-227 in 21 games.
The Bruins didn't punt until their ninth possession, early in the fourth quarter. Inside linebacker Spencer Havner had an interception and a sack, Nikola Dragovic had a sack and blocked a PAT.
San Diego State's Lynell Hamilton had two 1-yard touchdown runs in his first game since breaking his lower right leg late in the 2003 season.
The Bruins began their first drive from their 36 after forcing SDSU to punt. Drew blew through a hole on the left side and sped through the defense. One Aztec dived futilely at him at midfield, and Drew outran cornerback Donny Baker into the end zone.
San Diego State briefly kept it close, pulling to 7-6 when Hamilton scored on a 1-yard run to finish a 70-yard drive. Dragovic blocked Garrett Palmer's PAT. Hamilton carried six straight times for 20 yards to cap the drive.
Drew then scored two consecutive touchdowns as the Bruins pulled away.
He dived over the pile for a 1-yard TD with 9:49 left in the second quarter, then scored on the punt return 2:12 later for a 21-6 lead. SDSU's Jacob Elimimian dived at Drew just after he caught the punt but missed, and the tailback ran right through the coverage to score.
Markey scored on a pair of 1-yard runs in the third quarter. His first came early in the quarter, and he set up his second score with a 71-yard kickoff return after SDSU's Kevin O'Connell threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Webb.
UCLA's Justin Medlock kicked field goals of 23, 48 and 40 yards, and missed from 48.
Hamilton scored on a 1-yard run with 11:52 left in the game.
O'Connell completed 19 of 26 passes for 204 yards, with two interceptions. UCLA's Drew Olson was 10-of-15 for 152 yards.
