SDSU Hosts Fleet Week Classic; Faces Long-Time Rival Brigham Young in Mountain West Home Opener
After recording its widest margin of victory in more than two years, San Diego State (1-3/0-1 Mountain West Conference) concludes a brief two-game homestand against longtime rival Brigham Young (1-2/0-1 Mountain West Conference) in the Fleet Week Classic on Saturday night at Qualcomm Stadium.

Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. PDT and the contest will be broadcast by SportsWest (tape delay in the San Diego market on Channel 4 San Diego) and is available nationally through ESPN's GamePlan package. The game can also be heard on XEPE-1700 AM (San Diego).

In celebration of the servicemen and servicewomen in the armed forces, 5,000 complimentary tickets are available for active, reserved or retired military personnel to attend the game and pregame tailgate party.

In addition, the pregame show will feature the U.S. Marines Leapfrog Precision Parachute group landing on the field, followed by a flyover by F-18 fighter jets.

San Diego State, which has faced the 21st most difficult schedule to date according to the Sagarin Ratings, claimed its first victory of the season on Saturday with a 52-21 victory over San Jose State in front of 55,868 fans, the third largest home crowd in school history. The Aztecs scored on their first possession and never trailed in the game in posting its highest point total since Oct. 11, 1996. The 31-point win was the largest for a San Diego State team since Sept. 13, 2003.

The victory marked the 19th consecutive non-conference home win against teams from non-automatic qualifying BCS conferences.

Sophomore quarterback Kevin O'Connell enjoyed the best game of his collegiate career as he went 23-of-29 with a career-high 271 yards, a career-high four touchdowns and no interceptions. Senior wide receiver Jeff Webb posted the seventh 100- yard receiving game of his career and became just the 11th Aztec player in school history to accumulate 2,000 career receiving yards, as he hauled in eight catches for 133 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, senior Freddy Keiaho continued to shine as he recorded nine stops, including six solo tackles and two tackles for loss. Keiaho ranks 10th nationally and first in the Mountain West Conference with an average of 12.0 tackles per game. The Aztec defense allowed just 233 yards of total offense and held San Jose State without a third-down conversion (0-for-17).

Brigham Young is coming off a heartbreaking 51-50 overtime loss to TCU last Saturday in Provo, Utah. The Cougars led 34-16 late in the third quarter and 41-29 midway through the fourth quarter, before falling to the Horned Frogs. Brigham Young accumulated 614 yards of offense in the game, including 517 through the air. The Cougars enter Saturday's game ranked fourth nationally in passing yardage per game at 367.3.

This is the 30th meeting between Brigham Young and San Diego State with the Cougars owning a 22-6-1 series lead. BYU has won the last four meetings between the teams, has come away with a victory in its last four visits to San Diego and is unbeaten in its last six games in Qualcomm Stadium (5-0-1). SDSU's last win in the series was a 16-15 victory in Provo on Oct. 21, 2000. The last time the Aztecs defeated the Cougars in San Diego was a 27-15 win on Nov. 5, 1988. All time in San Diego, the Aztecs are 4-9-1 against the Cougars.

Next week, the Aztecs travel to Sin City to face UNLV in a Noon PDT start. San Diego State has defeated the Rebels each of the last three seasons.
