SAN DIEGO - San Diego State notched its first Mountain West Conference victory of the 2005 season with a dominating 3-0 (30-16, 30-18, 30-19) victory over Wyoming in Peterson Gym Saturday afternoon. The Aztecs (9-5; 1-1 MWC) recorded a season-high .420 attack percentage en route to the win. The Cowgirls, meanwhile, hit .095 for the match as they saw their record drop to 5-6 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Melanie Greene led all players with 13 kills and 11 digs as she tallied her fifth double-double of the season while hitting .417 over the three games. Sophomore Lindsey Mahan added 11 kills (one shy of her career high) and six blocks while Audra Dent chipped in with 10 kills.

San Diego State also got an impressive serving performance from freshman Alicia Waller, who finished the match with seven aces including a school-record six in a row in the second game. She added six kills, nine digs and a pair of blocks to round out a solid offensive effort.

San Diego State dominated the first game, getting out to a 15-4 lead. Mahan and Green had five kills apiece for the Aztecs, who hit a blistering .515 for the game to just 0.86 for the Cowgirls. Wyoming, which tallied nine kills in the contests, got a team-high three from Emily Veenker.

Game two was a different story as the visitors came out and built a quick 9-3 lead. At that point, SDSU began a comeback that saw them score seven straight points to assume a 10-9 lead behind two kills apiece by Greene and Audra Dent. The teams traded points until the Aztecs took a 20-18 lead. Freshman Alicia Waller then served out the final 10 points for the Aztecs, a run that included the consecutive service aces. Greene and Dent totaled four kills each in the game to pace the SDSU offense.

The third game saw San Diego State take a 2-0 lead and never trail as they slowly built their advantage over the course of the contest. Greene and Dent again had four kills, with the latter putting down the final two points of the match. Mahan added three kills and three blocks.

San Diego State will make its first league road swing of the year when it travels to Colorado Springs, Colo., to face Air Force on Friday, Septt. 30, at 7:00 p.m. (MDT).
