SAN DIEGO - Senior defender Amanda Swiader's goal in the 79th minute gave the San Diego State women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Pacific Friday afternoon at the SDSU Sports Deck. The Aztecs improved to 6-4 on the season with the win while the Tigers fell to 5-3-1.

At the 78:30 mark, freshman Erika Sutton sent in a corner kick from the right side where sophomore Lisa Nielsen gathered the ball and sent it back to Swiader. Swiader, a co-captain, then drilled a left-footed shot into the upper-right corner from 15 yards away for her second goal of the season and fifth of her career.

Statistically, Pacific outplayed SDSU in the first half, outshooting the Aztecs, 4-2, and holding a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Tigers' best chance to score came in the 35th minute when Audrey Booth's 17-yard shot was blocked with a diving save by sophomore goalkeeper Cat Burson.

Burson (1-0), a UC Santa Barbara transfer making her first start of the season for SDSU, finished the match with four saves to earn the shutout.

Sophomore Casey Davidson, who also earned her first start this year, almost gave the Aztecs a 2-0 lead late in the second half, but her shot from just outside the penalty area hit the crossbar and bounced out of harm's way.

SDSU outshot Pacific, 8-3, in the second half and 10-7 for the game. In the second session this season, the Aztecs have outscored their opponents by six goals (11-5) and have outshot their foes, 69-46.

SDSU, who started nine underclassmen for the fourth consecutive game, is now 4-1 against Big West Conference teams in 2005 and 34-11-4 (.735) all-time.

The Aztecs will play their fifth match against a Big West opponent at 1 p.m. Sunday, when they travel to Long Beach State.
