SAN DIEGO - Seniors Lindsey Noll and Melissa Stapley had 12 and 11 kills respectively to lead San Diego State to a 3-0 (30-21, 30-24, 30-25) win over Southern Illinois in the nightcap of the Aztec Invitational Volleyball Tournament in San Diego. The Aztecs improved to 2-0 on the young season after defeating Liberty earlier in the day.

For the second match in a row, SDSU was impressive offensively, hitting well over the .300 mark (.360) on the evening. Stapley finished with a .625 hitting percentage with Noll right behind her at .579.

San Diego State led the opening game from start to finish, led by Lindsey Mahan's five kills along with three from Melanie Greene.

The second game was a much tighter affair with the teams trading points and the lead until it was 22-22. The Aztecs then got a kill from Stapley and back-to-back combination blocks from Mahan and Audra Dent to take a lead they would not relinquish.

In game three, Noll took charge, recording six of her match-high 12 kills. Three of those came in a seven-point SDSU run that saw it take a 19-12 lead and never look back.

Once again the Aztecs ran their 6-2 offense with two setters splitting time. Sophomore Kristen Castillo turned in 20 assists while freshman Leah Lathrop contributed 14.

SDSU continues action in the Aztec Invitational on Saturday morning (Sept. 3) as they meet UC Riverside at 10:00 a.m. in Peterson Gym. Later that day, the Aztecs will face Creighton at 3:00 p.m.
