CLEVELAND - San Diego State came from a game down to defeat host Cleveland State, 3-1 (21-30, 30-25, 30-27, 30-25), to win the championship of the Mutual Medical CSU Invitational in Cleveland, Ohio, Saturday evening. With the win, SDSU improved to 8-4 on the year as it won its third straight match while the Vikings ended a three-match win streak, falling to 7-4 in the process.

Junior Melanie Greene was again an offensive force for San Diego State, compiling 20 kills and 12 digs to record her second straight double-double of the weekend and fourth of the season. Greene was named the tournament MVP after averaging 4.78 kills and 3.89 digs per game while hitting at a .443 clip in SDSU's three matches.

Libero Aime Cordeiro, who notched 21 digs over the four games, was also named to the all-tourney team after averaging 5.30 digs pre game over the weekend. It marked the third straight weekend that the sophomore from nearby Santee (West Hills HS) was named to an all-tournament squad.

Brandie Molnar completed the return trip to her home state by contributing 15 kills and three blocks to SDSU's victory. Molnar, a transfer from Ohio State, hit .359 over SDSU's three matches and averaged just under two kills and half a block per game in the team's three contests in Cleveland.

In addition, middle blocker Lindsey Noll finished with 11 kills and four blocks against the Vikings while senior Melissa Stapley reached double figures in digs with a dozen.

As the game scores indicated, the match was close throughout with SDSU hitting .228 to CSU's .231. The Aztecs notched a total of 64 kills and 60 dig's to the Vikings' 63 kills and 57 digs.

San Diego State, winner of five of its last six matches, will now prepare for its 2005 Mountain West Conference opener as defending MWC tournament champion Colorado State is set to visit Peterson Gym on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7:00 p.m.
