SAN DIEGO - San Diego State wide receiver Jeff Webb and defensive back Marcus Demps have been listed as candidates to play in the 81st annual East-West Shrine Game played on Jan. 21, 2006, in San Antonio, Texas, at the Alamodome.

If selected, Webb and Demps will join an elite legacy of Shrine Game alumni that includes Tom Brady, John Elway, Walter Payton, Mike Ditka, Roger Staubach and former president Gerald Ford. Last year, 43 Shrine Game players were drafted to the NFL and 50 were signed as free agents.

This season, Webb is 29th nationally in catches per game, averaging 6.50 and is 44th in receiving yards per game (81.00), while Demps has 111 career tackles, including a season-best eight tackles last week at Air Force.

The last time SDSU was represented in the yearly contest was in 2002 when wide receiver J.R. Tolver and defensive end Akbar Gbaja-Biamila were picked to play.

The East-West Shrine Game, originally held in San Francisco since 1923, is a philanthropic event to raise money for the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children nationwide. These hospitals specialize in orthopaedic, burn and spinal cord injury care for children at no cost.
