LUBBOCK, Texas - San Diego State wrapped up play at Texas Tech's Red Raider Round-Up with a 3-0 (30-26, 30-24, 30-25) victory over the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock Texas. The win improved SDSU to 5-3 on the year while Georgia dropped its third match of the tournament to even its season ledger at 4-4.
Junior outside hitter Melanie Greene led the Aztec offense, recording 20 of the team's 52 kills on the day and hitting .436 over the three-game contest. Her kill total represented a career high, surpassing her previous best collegiate effort of nine at Loyola Marymount during the 2004 campaign. Greene completed a double-double effort with 13 digs.
Aime Cordeiro contributed 20 digs to bring her tournament total to 63, an average of 6.3 digs per games during the three matches.
In addition, freshman Alicia Waller added 12 digs while Lindsey Noll had a personal season-best six blocks. The setting tandem of Kristen Castillo and Leah Lathrop notched 23 and 21 assists respectively as they once again split time in the Aztecs' 6-2 offense.
All three games of the match were close, with San Diego State pulling ahead late in each one. SDSU took the first game behind seven kills by Greene and three blocks apiece from Noll and Audra Dent.
Greene continued her dominance in game two with eight more kills while Lindsey Mahan added four.
The final contest was knotted at 24-24 before SDSU ran off six of the next seven points with kills by Greene, Waller and Melissa Stapley to close out the match.
For the second straight weekend, sophomore Aime Cordeiro was honored as an all-tournament libero after averaging 5.15 digs per game during the three matches at the Red Raider Round-Up. She earned the same accolade at last weekend's Aztec Invitational. In additoon, Melanie Greene was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 3.60 kills and 3.30 digs per game over the weekend.
Up next for the Aztecs is a short trip north to take on Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6:00 p.m.
