SAN DIEGO - Over 45,000 tickets have been distributed for the Sony HD Classic featuring San Diego State and UCLA at Qualcomm Stadium on Saturday. Due to overwhelming response by SDSU students, additional sections of the stadium have been opened up, making stadium capacity for this game 56,841.
"It will be a great college atmosphere," said Steve Schnall, SDSU associate athletic director for marketing. "With an anticipated crowd of 50,000, it will be one of the biggest crowds in recent memory."
The Aztecs set a single-game attendance record last season of 57,216, in a 38-21 SDSU victory over Idaho State on Sept. 4. Eight other home games have topped the 50,000 mark with the most recent coming on three occasions during the Marshall Faulk era in 1992.
As part of the joint partnership between San Diego State, Sony Electronics and the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl, 50 cents from each individual game ticket will be donated to the San Diego chapter of Junior Achievement.
Tickets for this Saturday's game are still available and range in cost from $20 to $40. They can be purchased online at goaztecs.com or at the Aztec Ticket Office at Qualcomm Stadium (Gate E).
Following the Sony HD Classic opener against UCLA, the Aztecs' next home game will be Sept. 24 against San Jose State, with the KGB Sky Show to follow. Kickoff is set for 5:05 p.m.
