SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's basketball head coach Steve Fisher announced that Lorrenzo Wade, a 6-6 shooting guard, who attended Louisville last season, has transferred to San Diego State and is enrolled for the Fall 2005 semester. Wade will sit out this season to fulfill NCAA transfer requirements and will eligible for the 2006-07 season.
Wade played in 35 games as a true freshman last season for a Louisville team that went to the Final Four and posted an overall record of 33-5. A native of Las Vegas, Nev., Wade will have three years of eligibility remaining.
"We are excited to have Lorrenzo join the Aztec basketball family," Fisher said. "He will provide great athleticism and skill at the wing position as well as having the experience of playing in a Final Four."
Last season, Wade averaged 3.9 points and 1.7 rebounds in 9.9 minutes per game. He scored a season-high 14 points on two different occasions, once against Tennessee State and once at Tulane, both Cardinal victories. His performance versus the Green Wave was his most complete as he added six rebounds to go along with his 14 points.
Wade was rated the nation's No. 50 prep player by prepstars.com coming out of high school.
"This season he will be very competitive in practice and will provide great competition for our current players," Fisher said. "He is a strong addition to our basketball team."
